If I were to break down the toughest challenges in my life I would say it’s when I am in a state of overwhelm. I used to think that being overwhelmed was either something I deserved because I hadn’t done the work to keep me out of that spot or it was because too much sh*t was being thrown at me at once.
Now I know that being overwhelmed is a choice. How do you make this change?
Take for instance if you are a mum to a kid with special needs. You feel like there is too much medical stuff in the house, too many bills, too many appointments. TOO MUCH. Really though, it’s the emotion one’s attached to the activity. If you take the sadness out that you have to do all these extra steps in your day and you accept it, it’s not as hard.
Can you think of a place in your life you are overwhelmed? Is your kitchen a sea of plastic bottoms with missing lids? Is your schedule a series of missed deadlines and late meetings? Do you find that you forget your kid’s photo day and that just felt like the last straw?
There is only one way to eat an elephant (so to speak!). How’s that?
Bit. By. Bit.
Take the emotion out of the chore and do the work one section at a time and you will get there. Once you get started you’ll feel better. Action breeds confidence.
P.S. I’m a work in progress. 😉
